Attention Aerobics

What is Attention Aerobics? 

“You are where your attention is…make sure your attention is where you want to be.”  Reb Nachman of Bratslav.

    This quote is the motto of Attention Aerobics.  For the past 14 years I’ve been teaching children, adolescents, their parents and teachers a series of exercises to help them strengthen and stretch their ability to pay attention.  Our goal has been to have them be able to pay attention to whatever they want, whenever they want for as long as they want.  Equally valuable are the exercises they learn that show them how to NOT pay attention to distractions. 

    I’ve been fortunate to work at Pacific Hills School, Temple Israel Day School, Wonderland Ave. School and the University Elementary School at UCLA.  At UCLA I was part of a team of psychologists and graduate students in Psychology to actually do a small study of the effectiveness of these exercises.  The result was that the children in the experimental group who were taught the Attention Aerobic exercises did significantly better on a standardized test of attention than the children in the control group who didn’t learn the exercises.  Stay tuned to this website for more information on this exciting new program.  In the meantime consider this quote:
